I would like to take a moment to thank God for saving my life. Like most people here in Ixchange, we all had our own plans for life after school. My plan was to
become a doctor because I truly enjoy and love helping people in need. I thought my whole life was planned out. I was going to go to university and study to
become a pediatrician because of the love I have for children. I even had ideas about where I’d work after university, and where I’d live. I had everything figured
out without ever asking the Lord where I’m supposed to be and what I’m supposed to do. It was very easy for me to make these decisions regarding my life
because I thought that was the plan God had for me. I thought that, because I’d been dreaming about wearing that white coat since I was 7 years old, it was my
purpose. (I’m not saying that becoming a doctor is not my calling; I am still in the process of hearing from the Lord about my calling). For 12 years of my life, that
was what I was striving for; it was something that drove me to become the best in everything I
did, because university only wants top students. I worked hard in everything I did, and it still made me feel like I’m not giving it my all because I didn’t do it for the
Lord or with the Lord.
When I got to high school, I still had the same dream of becoming a doctor. Like most, I had friends who followed the world’s system. Some saw the whole
University thing as just a way to make money and build a career. Looking back now, I think, how could I be so blind? I was coming to church every Sunday and
putting up this image of being a true follower of Christ, meanwhile, throughout the week, I was living like the world: partying every weekend, lying to myself
and my family, drinking with my friends, living a rebellious life, and just living “the good life,” as the world would put it. At that time, it was so easy for me to judge
others who partied with me, but then, on Sunday, would post scriptures about how they were living for the Lord and how much they loved Him, yet not live the
way He calls us to live. When I came to iXchange, my perspective on life changed. I started to see things differently, to see more light. As first years, we had a
lot of sessions with Pastors and task team members, and one of the Pastors asked us, “What are you exchanging?” I went home that day and thought hard
about what I was exchanging. Well, I could have gone to university as I had planned. I could have started a career and put a degree behind my name. I could
still be friends with some of the people I went to school with, partying like they still do every weekend, and coming to church acting like a disciple. I could have
been making a lot of money and eating up what the world system was feeding me. I was so serious about this path that I had a mentor willing to help me in the
medical field. I had the university, the money, the accommodation, everything was ready. I had a plan, a backup plan for that plan, and even a backup for the
backup. But the Lord had other plans for me, bigger and greater plans, and that’s how I found myself here at iXchange. Literally exchanging what I had in mind
for what He has planned for me.
This wasn’t an easy decision to make, but it’s worth it. Sometimes, I do think about what I could be doing if I had chosen to follow my own plans. And
sometimes, it feels like you’re not
making any progress with God, but believe me, if you’re still here, it means you’re still choosing Him.
Being here isn’t easy. You’re going to be tested, tempted, and you’re going to question whether you made the right decision. But when those thoughts come,
stand firm on why you’re here.
Don’t look at other people’s progress; focus on your own walk with God. I just remind myself that the reward is great in heaven.
I have peace in knowing that the Lord has a plan for my life that I don’t have to worry about and that I am where He wants me to be. I am so
happy that I can finally live with purpose and know that what I’m doing is all for the glory of God. I am still learning not to worry about the
future and just leave everything to God because he has the perfect plan for my life. I am growing spiritually, and I am here to
strengthen my relationship with the Lord.
I am looking forward to the journey ahead and hope to grow more in my spiritual walk with the
Lord.
